I purchased this coffee-maker a few months ago and love the way it works, not having a glass carafe makes it easy, however, I am disappointed in the taste of the coffee. I am using the same kind of coffee as always, I am measuring accurately, but I always get a bitter after taste to the coffee. I am going back to my old krups which always makes a great tasting coffee.
Once I cleaned the unit with bleach and water (which also removed the staining inside the built-in carafe) it worked perfectly again. I love not having to fiddle with a carafe and the coffee stays fresh a long time. I have only had one problem, the unit started dripping but then I figured out that I hadn't cleaned the unit for a long long time. I would recommend this coffee maker to anyone. I am looking to replace it with the new taller version so I can put an iced glass under the spout to make iced-coffee.
I received this coffee maker as a gift. I buy very expensive gourmet coffee that I enjoy very much but unfortunaly no matter how well I clean the machine, no matter how new my filter is, my coffee always has a taste of a hint of plastic from this machine. 3) The water filters are quite expensive and unfortunatly, needed for this machine.
Why. 5) The inside of the plastic brewer is easily stained by the coffee and no amount of scrubbing will take the stain out. I really like the automatic shutoff and in general being that it was a gift I cant complain too much but if I paid for it I would be upset.
4) The machine is too tall to fit in a kitchen cabinet for storage. 1) The light that blinks red when you turn it on and off is too dim to see in sunlight so if you have a bright kitchen good luck trying to figure out if your coffee maker is on or off. 2) The aluminum filter that is supposed to last forever makes the coffee taste like metal so I switched to paper filters.
6) Worst of all the coffee tastes like plastic.
The replacement also began leaking fairly quickly. We usually run two pots each day, all day long, so they got some heavy use. I've purchased seven of this model coffee maker for my office over the past three years. What happened. The first two lasted about a year and the next two lasted about 18 months. The next two began leaking fairly quickly, one so bad I had to return it and get a replacement. Different parts or different manufacturing process. Don't know and don't care, but we did get tired of constantly wiping the countertops, so we bought a Bunn VLPF.
This thing is not for the avg. kitchen, it's a behemoth. It's been reliable for 3 years, however.
